Global Game Jam 2018

Went to my first game jam over the weekend and had a blast! There were many amazing games made and I met a whole bunch of cool peoples at the jam space in Greenfield, MA.

While I was hoping to do more 3D art I did end up making some cool sprites for our game which can be found at https://globalgamejam.org/2018/games/infected-1

Here are the Bacteria Designs I made for our game.

And this is the cool cover page the other artist on our team made. ArtMuffin

Final class, new Project

Last class of my Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Education!

It's been a long ride, but I'm almost done. This last one should be good. It's another Character Modeling class. I'll be creating Amy Pond in here Police Outfit from The Eleventh Hour. Needed a female character to add to my portfolio so why not her I said. I'm following Ryan Kingslien's book Realistic Game Characters so it should be good. Gonna end up doing most of the work in ZBrush.

Here's a drawing I did to familiarize myself with the character.

I'll miss you PAX.

What a blast PAX was this year. Saw so many cool games and talked to so many amazing people. Even found an old friend from over a decade ago that I never thought I'd see again.

But alas, it is over now. Time to get back to finishing up school. Take all those tips I gathered up and start making some more models and textures.

Abscission of Light

Well, my team class is almost done. We are so close to finishing the game. Everything is falling into place now and the game is really looking good. Our programmer Dino Suvalic really out did himself and created over 50 custom script file and even make himself some custom Kismet node. Amazing!

Julianne Torielli was her usually busy self, but she managed to get a great looking character done and put together some kick ass documentation in the form of a game manual. ;) This is her design for the box art.

Pretty snazzy eh. She even turned it into an icon for us.

Daniel Nix kept delivering some awesome art for us and took on the role of Sound Designer in the end. Made Damion "Goldize" Poitier's voice-over recording sound really mystical. And speaking of Damion, I have to give a big thank you to him for even taking the time to record his voice for me. It really make the game that much more epic.

Candy Royale

One more class down, Advanced Gamed Prototyping. It was a ton of fun. The student were split up into teams and we each took on a role. My team, Team Awesome, consisted of Scott Severance, Julianne Torielli, Erin Tanner, and myself. Scott was the Production Lead, Julie the Design Lead, and Erin was the Art Lead. I served as the Tech Lead, which meant I did about 90% of the programming. I used Gary Rosenzweig's code for the Platform game on flashgameu.com as a base to get me started.

Please note that this is not a full fledged game, it is a Prototype. Proof of concept if you will. None the less, it is still fun to play.

The music comes from ABSRDST on Chipmusic.org and the name of the song is Mystery Masterson and the Golden Key.

Click the image to open the game in a new window. Ideal size is 1080 x 720 px, so you may have to resize the window until I figure out how to automate the process.

Edit: You can go here to play the game now.  Flash Games

Custom Gun Model Working in UDK

Hooray! Actually got my gun model into a game. Still need to change the muzzle flash and add in our own bullets, but I'm so glad I got this working. As it turns out learning Flash ActionScript did come in handy. I don't think I would have been able to make it work otherwise.
